Surveylab - GIS data solution device

Hit your target with Formero's full line of service

Leon Toorenburg is the founder and CEO of Surveylab and he proved that dreams really can come true.  As a young engineer surveying radio sites in Kenya, driving 100 miles each day he had time to think and dream of something that would help him work smarter and get home before the lions dinner time.  His invention of ikeGPS an innovative handheld device that combines a camera, laser, GPS, compass, inclinometer and PDA is now a reality.

Surveylab is a NZ technology company and a global leader in the GPS-laser technology service.  Their latest development of the ikeGPS 1000 series is known for its "point and shoot" laser GPS technology that allows field users to remotely capture positional data for any target up to 1,000 meters distant. Users include utility companies, forest services, international military engineers and aid agencies for disaster recovery like the earthquake in Haiti.

For the launch of the ikeGPS 1000 series, Surveylab approached Formero to use its full line of service to prototype and produce 50 units for a customer with critical timeframes, incurring costly penalties if deadlines were not met.  Formero were put to the test with a few issues on this project, the material selection was important to ensure plastic parts were matched for the PDA integration.  During the pre-production design review a number of modifications were required, potentially causing serious concerns to timelines.  Formero’s project manager ensured each issue was resolved efficiently using Formero’s Design for Manufacturing (DFM) process and managing the relationships between Surveylab and our China team.

Utilising Formero's DFM service can overcome many of the challenges experienced with off shore manufacturing, our project management teams operating both in Australia and Shenzhen specialise in -

   * Adherance to tight deadlines
   * Overcoming language barriers
   * Managing supply base to deliver on quality expectations
   * Total project management from design to product delivery

Today, Surveylab has shipped ikeGPS solutions around the world to customers in the USA, Australia, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, India, Denmark, France, Taiwan, and Malaysia.
